Tata Aeris Launched: Tata Motors has introduced the new Aeris compact sedan in India at an introductory starting price of Rs. 5.30 lakh (ex-showroom). The model is essentially the heavily updated and rebranded version of the outgoing Tigor, but Tata has made enough changes to the exterior, cabin, features and powertrain options to give the sedan a fresh identity.
It is available in Smart, Pure, Pure+, Creative and Accomplished variants, with prices going up to Rs. 9.75 lakh for the top-spec Accomplished iCNG AMT. Tata Aeris Gets a Fresh Exterior Design
The Tata Aeris receives a substantial styling makeover compared with the model it replaces. The front-end now features sharper LED headlamps and redesigned daytime running lights, giving the sedan a more modern appearance. The lower grille has also been widened and incorporates C-shaped elements, while the revised bonnet adds a more upright and squared-off look to the front profile. New 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels further enhance the overall design.

Interior Gets a Major Technology Upgrade
Inside the cabin, Tata has focused heavily on technology and convenience. The Aeris gets a large 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system paired with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Tata Aeris retains the familiar 1.2-litre Revotron three-cylinder petrol engine. In petrol form, the engine produces 86 PS at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 3,300 rpm. Buyers can pair this engine with either a five-speed manual gearbox or an AMT, depending on the selected variant. This setup continues Tata’s focus on providing a practical powertrain for everyday city and highway use.
The CNG version produces 75.5 PS at 6,000 rpm and 96.5 Nm at 3,500 rpm. It is also offered with both five-speed manual and AMT transmissions. The availability of a CNG AMT is particularly notable because it combines the running-cost benefits associated with CNG with the convenience of an automated transmission. Tata has made the CNG AMT available from the Pure variant onwards.
Dimensions and Underpinnings
The Aeris measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,684 mm in width and 1,532 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,450 mm. It offers 170 mm of ground clearance, which should be useful for dealing with typical Indian road conditions and speed breakers. The petrol version has a 419-litre boot, while Tata has not specified the corresponding boot capacity for the CNG model.
The sedan uses an independent front suspension featuring a lower wishbone and McPherson strut arrangement with coil springs. At the rear, it gets a semi-independent closed-profile twist-beam setup with a Dual Path Strut. Depending on the variant, the car rides on either 175/65 R14 or 175/60 R15 tyres, while the CNG range uses 175/65 R14 tyres. Tata has also quoted a 22.4-degree approach angle, 31.7-degree departure angle and 21.4-degree ramp-over angle.
Safety Features Get Strong Attention
Safety is another area where Tata has expanded the Aeris’ equipment list. Six airbags are offered as standard, alongside electronic stability program, ABS, EBD, corner stability control and hill-hold control. The sedan also gets ISOFIX child-seat mounts, an intelligent tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and a rear defogger.
Higher-end technology includes a dashcam recorder, a 360-degree HD surround-view camera with both 2D and 3D views, a blind-view monitor and an HD reversing camera. Tata has also added several dedicated safety systems to the CNG versions, including leak detection, thermal incident protection, rear-crash protection and direct CNG starting.
